8 Ways To Protect Your Lips During Winters

Dry and lacklustre lips are a big concern for any woman every winter. Many might wonder why winter months afflict their skin, lips and make it frustrating. Winter is dry as the humidity level in the atmosphere plunges along with the temperature. Dry air leaves both the skin and lips parched.

The dry weather in winter affects lips very badly as the skin here is very thin. Also, they are very few oil glands to retain moisture in the area. Lips can also become dry to the lack of nutrients, allergic reaction or other reasons.

Whatever might be the reason, here are a few tips to have luscious lips and a pretty pout, which every girl would desire.

1, Aloe vera

The gel extracted from this garden plant is a perfect remedy for chapped lips. Just take the juice directly from the succulent leaf and rub it on your damaged lips. It does have an unpleasant taste, but provides you relief. You need to repeat this for a few days for good results. Aloe vera has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial agents which protect the skin from infections.

2, Sugar

Removing dead skin will help in making your lips smooth faster. Mix two spoons of sugar with honey and apply the paste to your lips. After some time, gently rub the mixture on the lips with your fingers to loosen dead skin. Then wash off with lukewarm water.

3, Honey/Ghee

Both are good moisturisers. Honey also has anti-bacterial properties which can heal chapped lips.  Simply apply honey on the lips several times or mix it with glycerine and apply it on lips before going to bed.

4, Rose Petals

Not just healing sore lips, rose petals also help in lightening dark lips. They will restore the moisture into your lips and also enhance beautiful colour. Wash some petals in water and soak them in milk/glycerine for a few hours. Mash them into a paste and apply it on your lips 2-3 times in a day. For best results, apply it before going to bed.

5, Castor Oil

You may hate the idea but it’s worth all the pain. Castor oil, most known to be disliked for its pungent smell can either be applied directly or mixed with a few drops of glycerin and a few drops of lemon juice. Castor oil is the best treatment for dehydrated lips.

6, Milk cream

The fat-rich milk cream acts as a great lip moisturiser. Let the fresh milk cream be on your lips for a few minutes and then wipe it off with a cotton ball dipped in lukewarm water.

7, Mustard and coconut oil

Mustard oil is easily available in any kitchen. Though dry lips may burn on coming in contact with this oil, it is a very effective remedy. Coconut oil is a natural moisturiser that helps in the healing process. Alternatively, you can also use olive oil.

8, Cucumber

Rub a slice of cucumber on the affected lips. Leave the juice on the lips for 15-20 minutes and then wash them with water.

Above all, drink plenty of water. Lips get chapped due to lack of moisture in them. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking water, which also flushes out toxins out of your body.
